As a musician myself, I brought a unique perspective to the process of interviewing a state-champion vocalist and actor at Grant High School. By touching on her contributions to multiple performing arts program in the school, I aimed to highlight some of the best of what Grant has to offer.

Public health has always interested me, and only more so since the COVID-19 pandemic. Last year, I got the opportunity to learn and report at the same time as I worked with an immunology expert to cover the national avian influenza epidemic.

As a sophomore, I was inspired to write a comprehensive article about Grant High School’s Advanced Placement program, which led me to conduct 14 interviews over two weeks (and attempt to fit all the information into two magazine pages.)

In 2023, I wrote a 2500 word research paper on our first national park: Yellowstone. The paper furthered my research skills through analysis of primary and secondary sources and gave me a nuanced perspective on United States history. I took the paper to the Oregon History Day Competition, where I was one of two people in my category selected to represent Oregon at the National History Day Competition in Washington D.C. The rewarding process of researching, drafting and editing my paper — and the fun I had while competing with it — were a preview of the experience I would have on Grant Magazine.
